The sweetest story that’s ever been told
Lies in the slim circle of gold
Joining two people as husband and wife
To share in the joys and the sorrows of life
For richer or poorer – in sickness and health
Your marriage can yield up a wonderful wealth
Of memories to treasure and hopes to renew
All part of the promises made by you two
With faith in each other and love as your guide
As long as for ever, you’ll walk side by side
And the shining reminder of how much you care
Will lie in the little gold band that you wear
Alice E Chase
Love is like magic, And it always will be,
For love still remains, Life’s sweet mystery!
Love works in ways, That are wondrous and
And there’s nothing in life, That love cannot
Love can transform, The most commonplace,
Into beauty and splendour, And sweetness and
Love is unselfish, Understanding and kind,
For it sees with its heart, And not with its mind!
Love is the answer, That everyone seeks-
Love is the language that every heart speaks-
Love cant be bought, It is priceless and free,
Love like pure magic, Is a sweet mystery!
Helen Steiner Rice
Give Lavishly! Live Abundantly!
The more you give, the more you get
The more you laugh, the less you fret
The more you do unselfishly, the more you live
The more of everything you share
The more you’ll always have to spare
The more you love, the more you‘ll find, That life
is good and friends are kind
For only what we give away, Enriches us from
day to day
Helen Steiner Rice
A marriage makes of two fractional lives, a whole.
It gives to two purposeless lives a work, and doubles the strength of each to perform it.
It gives to two questioning natures, a reason for living, and something to live for.
It will give a new gladness to the sunshine.
A new fragrance to the flowers,
A new beauty to the earth,
And a new mystery to life
She to He
When we’re together I forget the day’s concern,
And nothing seems to matter except being in your arms.
When we touch, I leave everything behind, and
enter a world of dreams made only for us.
When we kiss, I lose myself completely in joy
I've discovered, in the wonder of you.
You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me,
And I know how very lucky I am to have you.
He to She
If all I give is all I have then what should I have left?
If I give of my love my shelter – then am I cold bereft?
What if I give you my relish, my zest – is my humour left stoic and dead?
And if I assured you by giving my faith would I be left hopeless instead?
If I was to vie my strength, my spirit would I lay weak and broken?
I think not!, when I raise my head, tenderly awoken.
The trust you give in your eyes; shines for all to see.
Then I know, the truth of giving is given back to me.
There is hope in your smile, love in your touch; spring faith anew.
And thus I know as I give all you give all to me, 2
The Both Of Us
A marriage between two
A joining of two hearts
A joining of the future
A love that will never be apart
As you stand before us on this special day
We wish you all the love in the world
We wish you happiness for you both to share
May your dreams be fulfilled and life be without a care.
I now ask everyone gathered here
To show their appreciation for the love they share
I ask you all to give a cheer
To share their joy of being a pair.
A Good Marriage
A good marriage must be created
In marriage the little things are the big things
It is never being too old to hold hands
It is remembering to say “I love you” at least
once a day
It is never going to sleep angry
It is having a mutual sense of values and
It is standing together to face the world
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the
It is speaking words of appreciation and
demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways
It is having a capacity to forgive and forget
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which
Each can grow
Marriage is a dynamic process of discovery.
Marriage is a journey, not an arrival.
In marriage, being the right person is as important as finding the right person.
Marriage is starting to love, over and over again
Marriage is a life’s work. Marriage is an art….. and
Like any creative process, it requires active thought and effort.
We have to learn how to share on many different levels.
We need to practice talking from the heart, and understanding attitudes as well as words.
Giving generously and receiving graciously are talents that are available to anyone.
But all these skills need to be developed, if the marriage
Pictures that we paint is to be anything
Approaching the masterpiece intended.
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm’d;
And every fair from fair sometime declines.
By chance, or nature’s changing course untrimm’d:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade.
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander’stin his shade.
When in eternal lines to the time thou growst.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see.
So long lives this, and gives life to thee.
What Is Marriage?
Marriage is the union of two people in love,
And love is sheer magic for it’s woven of
Gossamer dreams, enchantingly real,
That people in love are privileged to feel-
But the “exquisite ecstasy” that captures the heart
Of two people in love is just a small part
Of the beauty and wonder and miracle of
The growth and fulfilment and evolvement of love
For only long years of living together
And sharing and caring in all kinds of weather
Both pleasure and pain, the glad and the sad,
Teardrops band laughter, the good and the bad,
Can add new dimensions and lift love above
The rapturous ecstasies of “falling in love”-
For ecstasy passes but it is replaced
By something much greater that cannot be
For what was “in part” has now “become whole”
For on the “wings of the flesh,” love entered the
Blessing for a Marriage
May your marriage bring you all the exquisite
excitements a marriage should bring, and may life
grant you also patience, tolerance, and
May you always need one another – not so much
to fill your emptiness as to help you know your
fullness. A mountain needs a valley to be
complete; the valley does not make the mountain
less, but more; and the valley is more a valley
because it has a mountain towering over it.
So let it be with you and you
May you need one another but not out of weakness.
May you want one another, but not out of lack.
May you entice one another, but not compel one
May you embrace one another, but not out
encircle one another
May you succeed in all important ways with one
another, and not fail in the little graces.
May you look for things to praise, often say “I
Love you!” and take no notice of small faults.
If you have quarrels that push you apart, may
both of you hope to have good sense enough to
take the first steps back.
May you enter into the mystery which is the
awareness of one another’s presence - no more
physical than spiritual, warm and near when you
are side by side and warm and near when you
are in separate rooms or even distant cities.
May you have happiness, and may you find it
Making one another happy.
May you love, and may you find it loving one
JAMES DILLET FREEMAN
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alterations finds.
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no! it is an ever fixed mark, That looks on
Tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand’ring bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come.
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks.
But bears it out even to the edge of doom:,
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved
A Walled Garden
‘Your marriage,’ he said, ‘should have been
within it, a secret and a protected place, open to
you alone. Imagine it to be a walled garden,
entered by a door to which you only hold the key
Within this garden you will cease to be a
mother father, employee, homemaker or any
other of the roles which you fulfil daily in life.
Here you are yourselves two people who love
each other. Here you can concentrate on one
So take my hand and let us go back to our
garden. This time we spend together is not
wasted but invested. Invested in our future and
the nature of our love.
Where There Is Love
Where there is love the heart is light,
Where there is love the day is bright,
Where there is love there is a song
To help when things are going wrong…..
Where there is love there is a smile
To make all things seem worthwhile,
Where there is love there is quiet peace,
A tranquil place where turmoil’s cease Love
charges darkness into light
And makes the heart take “wingless flight”
HELEN STEINER RICE
To my Dear and Loving Husband
If ever two where one, then surely we;
If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare me, ye women, if you can.
I prize my love more than whole mines of gold,
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor aught but love from thee give recompense.
Thy love is such I can no way repay;
The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
Then while we live in love lets preserve
That when we live no more we may live ever.
I promise you my love…. Without any limits
to accept the things you believe in
and try always to understand you
to be near you
whenever you need my presence
to trust in your love for me
and pray that it grows stronger every day
to watch our love grow together,
through the years.
I promise to soothe your mind and body
To plan with you, dream with you
To do my best to show you
how much I love you
for you have become my world, my heart,
The future is ours…always.
My love, My Life
You’re the love of my life
You’re the stars in my sky
And I know you’ll be mine
Till the day that I die
For I couldn’t imagine
I haven’t a clue
What the future could hold
In a world without you
You’re the rock that I cling to
My warmth when I’m Cold
And when sleep becomes restless
The dream that I hold
I’ll love you
I’ll always love you
For you’ll always be
The most wonderful thing
That has happened to me
Without you beside me
My day would not start
There’d be no air to breathe
And no beat to my heart
You’re my reason for living
My present, my past
Only you have the power
To make my dreams last
The Prophet – and what of marriage?
Then Almitra spoke again and said, And what of
And he answered saying:
You were born together, and together you shall be
You shall be together when the white wings of
death scatter your days.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness.
And let the winds of the heavens dance between
Love one another, but make not a bond of love;
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores
of your souls
Fill each others cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from
the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let
each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though
They quiver with the same music
Give your hearts, but not into each other’s
For only the hand of life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For pillars of the temple stand apart.
And oak tree and cypress grow not in
each others shadow.
True love is a sacred flame
That burns eternally,
And none can dim its special glow
Or change its destiny.
True love speaks in gentle tones
And hears with gentle ear,
True love gives with open heart
And true love conquers fear.
True love makes no harsh demands
It neither rules nor blinds,
And true love holds with gentle hands
The hearts that it entwines
From the House at Pooh Corner
“Pooh, promise you won’t forget about me, ever.
Not even when I’m a hundred.”
Pooh thought a little.
“Ninety-nine.” Pooh nodded.
“I promise,” he said.
Still with his eyes on the world, Christopher Robin
put out a hand and felt for Pooh’s paw.
“Pooh,” said Christopher Robin earnestly, “if I’m
not quite” he stopped and tried again “Pooh,
whatever happens, you will understand, won’t
“Oh, nothing.” He laughed and jumped to his feet.
“Where?” said Pooh.
“Anywhere,” said Christopher Robin.
What Is Love
Sooner or later we begin to understand that love is
more than verses on valentines and romance in
We begin to know that love is here and now, real
and true, the most important thing in our lives.
For love is the creator of our favourite memories
and foundation of our fondest dreams.
Love is a promise that is always kept, a fortune
that can never be spent, a seed that can flourish
in even the most unlikely places.
And this radiance that never fades, this
mysterious and magical joy, is the greatest
treasure of all – one known only by those who
Love is a mighty power, a great and complete good.
Love alone lightens every burden, and makes
rough places smooth.
It bears every hardship as though it were nothing,
and renders all bitterness sweet and acceptable.
Nothing is sweeter than love,
Nothing more pleasant,
Nothing fuller or better in heaven or earth;
Love flies, runs and leaps for joy.
Love knows no limits, but ardently transcends all
Love feels no burden, takes no account of toil,
attempts things beyond it’s strength.
Love sees nothing as impossible,
for it feels able to achieve all things.
It is strange and effective,
while those who lack love faint and fail.
Love is not fickle and sentimental,
nor is it intent on vanities.
Like living flame and burning torch,
it surges upward and surely surmounts every obstacle.
THOMAS A KEMPIS (1379-1471)
A Red Red Rose
O my luve’s like a red, red rose,
That’s newly sprung in June:
O my Luve’s like the melodie
That’s sweetly play’d in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will love thee still, my Dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my Dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
I will love thee still, my Dear,
While the sands o’life shall run.
And fare thee weel, my only Luve!
And fare thee weel, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile!

Love must be unconditional
For truly it must be
Born of selfless giving
Spiritual and free.
Showing all encouragement
Helping smooth the way,
Catching not another heart
And begging it to stay
Love isn’t born for smothering
For that shall snuff the flame
Extinguishing the candle light
That bears anothers name.
It shouldn’t be possessive
Demanding all control
But filled with tender giving
From the spirit of the soul.
Hold not that love too tightly,
Let it rest in open hands,
For it will not take fright and fly
When it understands
There’s nothing there to hurt it,
To crush its fragile wings,
For when it isn’t threatened The bird of loving
In a world full of madness
This one thing is true
I am madly in love
And crazy for you
for as sure as the sunshine
Beats down from above
With the love of my life
Comes a lifetime of love
You’re my first thought on waking
My last as day’s end
You’re my partner, my soulmate
My lover my friend
Through life’s constant changes
One thing will stay true
My darling forever
I’ll always love you.
